Family Law
The world of family law is constantly evolving and encompasses a wide variety of areas. We take pride in clearly explaining and navigating every phase of the family law process, strategically planning for each stage, and ensuring our clients are well prepared for each phase with an eye to client needs and desires.
Appellate Law
Appellate law encompasses the world of appeals within the judicial system. Often, verdicts or decisions are appealed. Sometimes pretrial rulings can also be appealed through an interlocutory process. It is important that you have an attorney on your side that is familiar with the procedural rules of the appellate process. The appellate process is not litigation, but rather using the talent of persuasive writing, and sometimes oral argument, to frame a case appropriately to persuade appellate justices to rule in your favor.
There are fourteen courts of appeals at the intermediary appellate level. The two top courts in Texas are the Texas Supreme Court, for civil and family matters, and the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, for criminal matters. Our attorneys devote their practice to family and criminal appeals.
Family Law Appeals
Family Law appeals are the most contentious and difficult appeals that one can take on in the State of Texas. They are a subset of the civil appellate process. The law is constantly evolving and each of the intermediary appellate courts have their own interpretation of the law. With the Texas Supreme Court being the final decision maker in Texas (subject to appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court), knowledge of the very few decisions in family law, and how they may apply to the facts of each case are important in the appellate counsel you choose. Our family law appellate lawyer is a family law litigation practitioner as well. She has extensive trial and hearing experience focused specifically in family law. This gives her and her team the ability to appropriately frame cases and apply the current law to your facts in a manner that will be persuasive to appellate justices.
Civil Appeals
Our attorneys are devoted to the appellate process. If you have a civil appeal and wish to consult with one of our attorneys, we are happy to discuss the matter with you. We have experience in civil appeals, including defamation cases, and auto accident cases. Although not our focus, if your case appears to be a good fit for our practice, we are happy to help.
Litigation Support - Error Preservation for Trial Attorneys
Parties lose their cases on appeal for many reasons. The biggest reasons are when an appellate court determines that error was waived or that the necessary record was not preserved for appellate review.
When the Notice of Appeal is filed, this should not be the first time to realize that you should have an appellate attorney on your side. Trial attorneys are very skilled at their trade.
